Global Ageing and Effect Samples for Students †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Global Ageing and its Effect. Answer: Global ageing and its effect on the national population The number of older adults above the age of 65 has increased by tenfold over the last century (McDaniel Zimmer, 2013). People are now living longer and are in more comfort and good health than ever. The life expectancy rate has also increased to a considerable extent (McDaniel Zimmer, 2013). The advanced technology in the field of science and medicine, nutrition, better sanitation and education provides the rationale for longer lives of the older adults. The improved health care sectors and diagnosis of diseases have increased the life expectancy of the older adults (Suzman et al., 2015). It has to be remembered that increased ageing population is straining the social insurance and the pension systems (McMorrow Roeger, 2012). It is affecting the parameters like trade, migration, disease pattern. The number of the oldest old is rising. It is mainly due to the baby boomers in the years following the Second World War. Due to this ageing population the national population has to face the burden of chronic and non communicable diseases. This is leading to increased health care costs (Suzman et al., 2015). Global ageing is faced with new economic challenges and will have a drastic effect on the labor supply, social entitlement programs and savings around the world (McMorrow Roeger, 2012). Work and retirement patterns are also changing. Elderly people are undergoing job extensions decreasing the employment opportunities for the young generation. Governments have started to initiate changes in the retirement age for easing out the burden of the public spending. A lot of loops and gaps are still to be filled in order to address the issue and manage the global economy. References McDaniel, S. A., Zimmer, Z. (Eds.). (2013).
